What Is the Harvey HVX Water Softener?

The Harvey HVX is a slightly larger water softener which has been designed to cater for the larger than average size family home.

It is a twin tank and non-electric system that can use either block salt of tablet salt. On comparison the HVX is identical to the Harvey XL2 model in terms of spec and size.

Is It the Best Choice for My Home?

This softener is for 3-5+ bathroom homes.

The Harvey HVX Review Score & Rating

4/5

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Summary: What’s Great About This Softener

High Capacity. High Flow Rate. Non-Electric.

The Harvey HVX is a high flow softener with a large flow rate of 80L/min. This means it is perfect for larger family homes and can deliver a high capacity of soft water for multiple occupants.

Being non-electric – the system is automatic, so no need for timers or controls and as a rule of thumb, running costs will be lower than an electrical system. The system itself can hold more salt that a regular softener and this product can be either tablet or block salt fed.

Summary: What’s Not So Great About This Softener

Higher Price. Size. Availability.

The HVX comes into two parts a softening cabinet and brine tank. Harvey claims this softener can fit neatly underneath a kitchen sink – however with two large parts to it, you may need more space. Many customers report having to install the system in a garage due to its size.

The price of the HVX can vary because the product is only available from Harvey direct and customers receive a number of different quotes. Customers report prices of around £2200, including installation.

The system also only comes with only a 3-year warranty after installation.

The Pros

  • High soft water capacity and flow rate.  Similarly to the XL2, the HVX has a high flow rate and soft water capacity, making it great for larger family homes with multiple occupants and without the risk of any pressure losses.
  • Non-electric and automatic. Meaning this softener doesn’t need any programming or regular maintenance, simply fill it up with block salt when it runs out.
  • Twin Tank Design. Which will provide an uninterrupted supply of soft water.
  • Good Efficiency. The salt and water volume used per regeneration is efficient. What’s more, a non-electric softener will also save you money in terms of maintenance and energy bills.
  • Holds more salt. Standard water softeners can hold 2 blocks of salt at any one time. The HVX holds 6 blocks, so you won’t need to replace the salt as often.

The Cons

  • Only available from Harvey direct. This softener is an exclusive Harvey product – meaning you cannot purchase the system online. You will need to enquire direct with Harvey and have a home sales call.
  • A large size. It could be difficult to install under the kitchen sink.
  • Higher price. Harvey offer exclusive quotes with installation included. Prices for this system tend to be around £2200 – which is more expensive than other systems.
  • Is similar to other models. Including the XL2. What’s more, the Harvey Big Blue could be a cheaper and more efficient option online – despite being advertised as a commercial product. The Big Blue and HVX both have the same flow rate, but the big blue has a better overall specification and a longer warranty.
  • Only a 3 -year warranty. Unlike the Big Blue (which has a 5 year warranty), the HVX only offers a 3 year warranty from Harvey, which can be extended at an extra cost.

The Harvey HVX Price, Value & Where to Buy

£2200

The HVX is a Harvey exclusive product that has been designed for larger family homes. Harvey advertises this system is great for 4 bathrooms, but with a flow rate of 80L/min – it is more than suitable for a few more. It is great for homes with 5+ bathrooms and has a greater capacity to handle the water softening needs of homes with more occupants.

With a high flow rate of 80L/min, you also don’t have to worry about any pressure drops in the home. What’s more, being non-electric means there is little maintenance involved.

However, the price of this product can vary and Harvey often give quotes to include their installation. This large water softener appears to be identical to models such as the XL2 – which you can purchase online. Not only that, but the Big Blue water softener (also available to buy online), has an even better specification and the same 80L/min flow rate. The Big Blue is available online for £1895 and may be better value for money.

This Harvey product can be found advertised online from Harvey direct.
